Rulox (manufactured by SKG-Pharma, among others) is an over-the-counter antacid and anti-flatulent medication designed to neutralize excess stomach acid and relieve gastrointestinal gas discomfort.
It functions similarly to standard combination antacids like Gestid, Danacid, and Maalox.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Rulox combines three active components to manage symptoms:

Aluminium Hydroxide: A slower-acting antacid that neutralizes gastric acid to deliver long-lasting relief. (Can tend to cause mild constipation).

Magnesium Hydroxide: A fast-acting antacid that quickly lowers acidity in the stomach. (Can tend to have a mild laxative effect).

Simethicone (Activated Methylpolysiloxane): An anti-foaming agent that breaks down trapped gas bubbles in the gut, making them easier to pass.
Why the combination? Combining aluminium and magnesium salts helps balance out their respective side effects on bowel movements (constipation vs. diarrhea).

Usage & Administration Guidelines

Oral Suspension: Shake the bottle thoroughly before each use so the active ingredients are evenly mixed.

Chewable Tablets: Must be chewed completely before swallowing; do not swallow tablets whole. Follow with water.

Best Timing: Take 20 to 60 minutes after meals and at bedtime, or as acute symptoms arise.

The “2-Hour Gap” Rule: Antacids bind to many other medications in the gut, stopping them from absorbing properly. Always space Rulox at least 2 hours apart from other prescription drugs (including antibiotics like ciprofloxacin or doxycycline, iron supplements, and thyroid medication).
Precautions

Kidney Impairment: Avoid prolonged use if you have severe kidney problems, as aluminium and magnesium can accumulate in the bloodstream.

Duration Limit: Do not use continuously for more than 10 to 14 days without consulting a physician. Recurrent stomach pain or acid reflux should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out underlying conditions.
