Amoksiclav is a widely prescribed broad-spectrum antibiotic designed to combat a diverse range of bacterial infections. It combines amoxicillin (a penicillin-class antibiotic) with clavulanic acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). While amoxicillin actively halts bacterial growth, clavulanic acid blocks the enzymes that bacteria produce to resist penicillin. This synergistic action enables Amoksiclav to succeed against resistant bacterial strains where standard amoxicillin fails.

Primary Medical Indications

Amoksiclav is indicated for adult and pediatric treatment of acute and chronic bacterial infections, including:

• Upper & Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Acute bacterial sinusitis, chronic bronchitis exacerbations, community-acquired pneumonia, and otitis media (middle ear infection).

• Urinary Tract & Kidney Infections: Cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis caused by susceptible organisms.

• Skin & Soft Tissue Infections: Cellulitis, abscesses, infected wound sites, and animal or human bite wounds.

• Bone & Joint Infections: Osteomyelitis requiring extended antibiotic coverage.
